Learning from experience becomes a key organizational practice for enhancing innovation capability in today’s complex business environment. Many companies put efforts into capitalizing on their experiences through nurturing feedback loop practices at different phases in a product lifecycle. Although literature has reported the significance of many feedback loops, research on feedback loops is quite fragmented and is full of anecdotal evidence and little inherent cohesion. The purpose of this paper is to advance understanding on how the concept of feedback loops has been used in the literature in relation to the innovation capability. Results from the study are twofold. First, different ways of interpreting feedback loops and their definitions from related areas were synthesized and presented. Second, the different types of feedback loops that have been emphasized in the extant literature as significant were identified and presented. Finally, the identified feedback loops were categorized into five classes. The outcomes were then discussed, and several proposals for further research were outlined.
