Senem Turhan, Senior Lecturer

Senem Turhan’s research focuses on how people’s needs, experiences and values are brought into design and innovation processes. Her doctoral research developed Experience Reflection Modelling (ERM), a generative research method for bringing user experiences into the idea generation phase of design and development processes. Her postdoctoral research at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, funded by a TÜBİTAK international postdoctoral fellowship, addressed research methods for understanding user needs in design. She subsequently worked as a design researcher and supervisor in a number of projects in collaboration with external partners in industrial design within research and educational context. At Mälardalen University, she has worked in the SECO Collab Living Lab, part of the EU project Eco-Ready, and on the project Promoting Innovative Synergies for Multilingual Civic Engagement. She currently works on the user and societal aspects of NexTArc, a Chips Joint Undertaking project on trustworthy embedded AI. Her research interests include design thinking, sustainable product development, user-centred research methods, Living Lab methodology, speculative design and foresight, and collaboration in innovation and design.
